Setup and Installation – Sigfox Gateway

This article will take you through the few steps required to connect and start using your Sigfox Gateway.

For detailed installation recommendations and product specifications, please refer to the Product Manual.

Requirements

To use the Sigfox Gateway you will need:

  • Internet connection: Cellular network (3G/4G SIM card) or Ethernet connection (network cable)
  • Power source: 220V/110V AC power outlet

The gateway must be connected to power 24/7.

Setup

The Sigfox Gateway must be configured before installation and use!

Configure gateway by following this guide

Ethernet connectionYou might have to open certain communication ports. Please refer to section ā€œ5.3.1. Ethernet connectivityā€ in the Product Manual.
* The configuration can sometimes be reset (when configured in one country and moved to another country). Connect the gateway to power and check if the LED turns solid green. If not, follow this guide and write “internet” under APN.

Understand the LED

When the LED on the front of the gateway is solid green it is connected to the Internet and ready for use.

Installation

Sigfox Gateway (Standard version)

The gateway must be configured prior to installation and use! Read more under Setup above.

Package contents:

  • Sigfox Gateway
  • IP65 Sealing cover (dust & water resistance)
  • 3G/4G SIM card dongle
  • SIM card (not activated by default)
  • Ethernet cable
  • PoE Injector
  • Power supply adapter (select the correct plug for your region)
  • Mounting kits

To install the gateway:

  1. Insert the ethernet cable into the gateway
  2. Insert the other end of the enternet cable into the POE Injector (adapter)
  3. Depending on how you connect the gateway to the Internet:
    1. Cellular network (SIM card): Insert the USB Dongle into the gateway (with SIM card inside)
    2. LAN infrastructure (ethernet cable): Insert the PoE Injector into an Internet wall socket or router
  4. Connect the PoE Injector to the power supply and plug the adapter to the power outlet

Once you have connected the gateway like described, the gateway will boot up automatically and the LED will light up. Once the LED is solid green, the Sigfox Gateway is ready and operational.

Place the gateway at a suitable location where there is a low likelihood of it being damaged.

Sigfox Gateway in Protective Suitcase (Portable version)

The gateway must be configured prior to installation and use! Read more under Setup above.

Package contents:

  • Sigfox Gateway
  • Protective suitcase
  • 3G/4G SIM card dongle
  • SIM card (not activated by default)
  • Power cord

To install the gateway:

  1. Depending on how you connect the gateway to the Internet:
    1. Cellular network (SIM card): Insert the USB Dongle into the USB-cable (with SIM card inside)
    2. LAN infrastructure (ethernet cable): Insert one end of the ethernet cable into the suitcase and the other end into an Internet wall socket or router
  2. Insert the power cord into the side of the suitcase and plug it into the power outlet

Once you have connected the gateway like described, the gateway will boot up automatically and the LED will light up. Once the LED is solid green, the Sigfox Gateway is ready and operational.

Place the gateway at a suitable location where there is a low likelihood of it being damaged.
